Hard Candy and Gummy on One Silicone Frame?
A shared outer frame only works when pitch, rack, and wash already match. Hard candy wants draft and a firmer tray. Gummy wants flex. One cavity design will not serve both cooks.

On this page
Can hard candy and gummy share one silicone frame? Only the outer frame, and only if the depositor or rack, the tray outline, and the wash are already the same. The cavities should not be one design. Cooked sugar sets rigid and wants draft. A gummy needs enough flex to peel a logo. Putting both cooks in one cavity family is how you get torn gummies or cracked hard candy and then blame the silicone.
Cooked-sugar trays live on custom silicone candy molds. Pectin and gelatin live on custom silicone gummy molds. This post is only the shared-frame decision.

When one frame is the wrong savings

| What is shared | What we quote | What we push back on |
|---|---|---|
| Same tray outline, two cooks, two release paths | One frame if the line already has it, plus a cavity insert or a second tray for the other cook | One Shore and one logo depth for sugar and gummy |
| Same cook family, two shapes, one pitch | One frame, insert per shape. That buy is one frame or three stock molds. | Using this page to skip the envelope check |
| Hard candy only, straight walls, high pour heat | A firmer tray with draft, quoted on the candy page | A soft gummy tray "because it is cheaper" |
| Gummy only, undercut logo | Flex in the Shore band that peels that logo | A hard-candy draft angle copied onto a gummy bear |
What has to split
Pour temperature, set, and demold force do not match. A sugar cook that is still hot can load a tray that a cold pectin dump never sees. If you wash both tools in one tunnel, say so. A pad that is fine on a firm sugar tray can chalk a softer gummy tray. That wash split is the same family of problem as oil spray versus a mold fix.
We would not recommend one sample poured with sugar and approved for a gummy SKU, or the reverse. Run each cook. Weigh or count the failure you actually ship: cracked pieces, torn logos, or stuck cavities.
Envelope is a different question

If the nozzles and the rack already share one outline, a shared frame can still be right. The insert or the second tray carries the cook. If hard candy needs a deeper cavity than the gummy pitch allows, it is a second tool. Do not stretch the gummy layout until the outer nozzles miss.
Starch versus silicone is not this decision either. See silicone or starch for edible gummies when the plant still has mogul boards.
Timing on a current quote
WYD quotes from Bao'an (since 2006). Soft-mold programs often start around 20 molds per approved design. That floor is not a universal MOQ for HTV, LSR, or an industrial tool. Simple 3D modeling can start around USD 50 when the file is not ready. It is not a tooling deposit. DFM on a complete file is quoted as review, not as a second product.

What to send
Send both formulas if you want both, pour or deposit temperature for each, tray outline, and whether one wash has to clean both tools. Mark which shape is allowed to change. We will say one frame plus an insert, two trays, or "do not share this cavity."
Send both cooks on one RFQ if they truly share a line. Otherwise send them as two quotes.
FAQ
Can one Shore run sugar and gummy?
Sometimes a middle band survives both for a plain open cavity. It is a poor bet on a deep logo. We want a trial on each cook before that Shore is locked.
Is a shared frame cheaper than two trays?
Only when the outline is already common and you will repeat both SKUs. A one-season sugar shape does not earn a shared frame.
Will the candy page and the gummy page quote the same tool?
No. Those pages own different pours. This article only says when the outer frame may be common.
What if the sugar tray must be hotter than the gummy tray?
Name both peak temperatures and dwell. We will not copy a gummy heat note onto a sugar cook.
Does this approve a THC or dosage claim?
No. Piece shape is not a dose. Keep potency and labels off the mold RFQ.
