Protective covers

Custom Silicone Protective Covers & Sleeves

WYD manufactures custom silicone protective covers, sleeves and boots for electronic devices, equipment, handles and other OEM products.

A protective cover should be developed around the real device geometry. Overall length and width alone are rarely enough to control fit.

What We Need From the Device

For accurate fit, provide:

  • device/housing 3D file
  • physical sample if available
  • port openings
  • buttons
  • camera/sensor locations
  • vents
  • mating features
  • areas that cannot be covered
  • installation direction

For reverse-engineering projects, a real device sample is often more reliable than dimensions copied from a public website.

Protective silicone cover context
A cover RFQ needs the housing and the ports that must stay open.

DFM for Silicone Covers

Interference and Retention

The cover must grip the housing enough to stay in place without becoming difficult to install.

Wall Thickness

Thin walls improve flexibility but can roll, tear or reveal underlying geometry.

Edge Lips

Retention lips and openings need enough strength to recover after installation.

Button Feel

Silicone thickness over a button can change actuation feel.

Port and Camera Clearance

Openings should be checked on the assembled device, not only in isolated CAD.

Parting Lines

Seams and flash should avoid critical mating/cosmetic areas where possible.

Manufacturing Routes

HCR/HTV Compression Molding

A common process for custom silicone covers and sleeves.

LSR Injection Molding

Can be used for designs and volumes suited to LSR.

Overmolding

If the silicone is permanently integrated with a rigid housing/insert rather than removable.

RTV Mold Making

WYD also offers RTV silicone molds where the purchased item is a casting mold. This is separate from manufacturing the finished protective cover.

Loose fit and blocked ports are the usual rejects.

Environmental Requirements

Tell us what the cover will experience:

  • repeated installation/removal
  • outdoor UV
  • sweat/skin contact
  • cleaners
  • water
  • oil/chemicals
  • temperature
  • drop/impact conditions

Do not claim IP, waterproofing or chemical resistance based on the silicone cover alone. Those functions depend on the complete device assembly and must be tested accordingly.

Prototype Validation

Check the sample on the real device for:

  • fit
  • retention
  • install/remove force
  • lip rolling
  • button feel
  • port/camera alignment
  • surface grip
  • recovery after removal
  • cosmetic marks
  • repeated cycles
Industrial cover parts
Dust/water contribution is a system claim — say what you will test.
