Silicone or TPE for a U-shaped mouth tray? If the part sits in the mouth, gets chewed, or goes through a hot wash, send it as a silicone part and name the contact time. TPE can be the better buy for a dry clip that never sees boil or bite heat, and that buy is not a silicone tool. WYD molds silicone (HCR/HTV compression or LSR when the geometry earns injection). We will not price a TPE pellet as if it were a silicone cavity.

When we quote silicone
A U-tray fails when the horseshoe collapses, the ends bite the gum, or a thin web tears at the midline. Send the arch width, wall, and how hard the user is expected to bite. HCR compression fits many solid sections. LSR is on the table when the section is thin and the volume supports an injection tool. Neither route is "cleaner" by slogan.
We would not recommend copying a teether Shore onto a boil-and-bite tray without a trial at your wash temperature. The same Shore in a thicker wall feels like a different product.
When TPE is the other factory
TPE is a thermoplastic. The tool, the shrink, and the heat ceiling are not the silicone tool you send us. If your drawing says TPE and the part never sees a hot wash, we should not convert it to silicone just to keep the RFQ. If the drawing says TPE and the SOP boils the tray, silicone may be the process that survives. That is a material change, quoted again, not a find-replace on the PDF.
What this page will not cover
No implant, no drug-contact claim, no "FDA-approved factory." A component drawing is not a device clearance. Equipment-only silicone parts that never enter the mouth belong on silicone medical products, with contact type written down. Food-contact paperwork for a feeding part is a document question, not a hardness question.
Timing on a current quote
WYD quotes from Bao'an (since 2006). Soft-mold programs often start around 20 molds per approved design. That floor is not a universal MOQ for HTV, LSR, or an industrial tool. Simple 3D modeling can start around USD 50 when the file is not ready. It is not a tooling deposit. DFM on a complete file is quoted as review, not as a second product.

Send the U-profile drawing or sample, mouth-contact minutes, wash or boil temperature, Shore if you already validated one, annual quantity, and the market whose paperwork you need. If the resin on the drawing is TPE, say whether that resin is mandatory. We will quote silicone or tell you to stay with a TPE molder.

FAQ
Will you mold the TPE version?
No. We mold silicone. A TPE callout stays with a TPE process unless you approve a silicone redesign.
Is platinum silicone required for every mouth tray?
Not as a slogan. The compound follows contact time, wash heat, and the documents your market asked for. Name those three.
Can one tool make both a soft tip and a firm U-channel?
Only if the section and the demold path still work. Two hardnesses usually mean two materials or an overmold, quoted separately.
Do you certify the finished device?
No. We can discuss material documents for the selected compound. The device file stays with you.
What if we only have a photo of the tray?
A photo can start the review. Bite span, wall, and wash temperature still have to be measured before a tool is cut.
