# What to Send for an Accurate Custom Silicone Mold Quote

A custom silicone mold quote becomes more accurate when the supplier understands the product, the manufacturing route and the quantity you actually need.

You do not need to have every answer before contacting WYD. Send what you have, and the missing engineering inputs can be identified during review.

Bao'an production floor

1. Design Information

Custom mold process

Best options include:

  • STEP/STP
  • STL
  • 2D drawing
  • physical sample
  • front/side/back photos
  • sketch or artwork

If you only have images, include at least one verified dimension.

2. What the Mold Will Be Used For

Tell us what will go into the mold:

  • gummy
  • chocolate
  • plaster
  • resin
  • candle wax
  • soap
  • concrete/gypsum
  • other material

The casting material affects mold structure, release and material selection.

3. Finished Part Size

Plant visit

Provide:

  • length/width/height
  • critical dimensions
  • target piece weight if relevant
  • flat-back or full 3D
  • solid or hollow

4. Cavity Count and Output

If you know the cavity count, provide it.

If not, provide the production target so the layout can be reviewed around output, handling and machine/rack constraints.

5. Mold Quantity

WYD process still

Separate:

  • prototype quantity
  • first production quantity
  • expected repeat volume

Selected custom mold programs can start around 20 pieces after sample approval, but the correct quantity depends on the project.

6. Material and Documentation

Tell us if you require:

  • food-contact documentation
  • target Shore hardness
  • specific silicone family
  • color
  • special environment/temperature
  • customer compliance forms

Do not use “FDA silicone” as the only specification; include market and use condition.

7. Prototype Acceptance

State what the first sample must prove:

  • fit
  • demolding
  • target weight
  • surface
  • logo
  • hardness
  • tray stiffness
  • casting quality

8. Shipping Destination

Provide country and postcode for a useful freight or DDP estimate.

Large flexible molds can be charged by volumetric weight, so final carton size may matter.

9. Ownership / NDA

If the design is confidential, request the NDA/NNN process before sharing sensitive files.

If ownership matters, define CAD, master and tooling rights in the quotation or agreement.

What Happens Next

Typical path:

  1. review supplied information
  2. identify missing inputs
  3. DFM / CAD scope
  4. quote prototype/tooling/production
  5. approve design
  6. prototype and test
  7. approve production
  8. repeat-order control

Send Your Project

Send your current file, overall dimensions, application, expected quantity and destination. If anything important is missing, WYD can tell you what needs to be confirmed before tooling.

RFQ Example: What “Good Information” Looks Like

Instead of:

> Need 20 soft silicone molds. Please quote.

send:

> Need 20 reusable RTV molds for plaster soap-bar-shaped castings. Finished bar approximately 3.5 × 2.5 × 1.25 in, target 12–20 cavities per mold, very flexible demolding, first prototype required before production. Ship to ZIP XXXXX. Please separate 3D/master/prototype and repeat mold price.

The second request gives engineering enough context to ask useful follow-up questions.

RFQ Example: Production Gummy Tray

Include:

  • target grams per gummy
  • formula family
  • cavity artwork
  • desired cavities per tray
  • maximum tray envelope
  • depositor pitch if applicable
  • food-contact market/document needs
  • prototype quantity
  • production quantity

RFQ Example: Physical-Sample Fit Project

Include:

  • photos of both parts
  • one known dimension
  • whether the real mating part can be shipped to the factory
  • required fit type
  • expected silicone feel/hardness
  • production quantity

FAQ

Can I request a quote without CAD?

Yes. Photos, sketches, dimensions or a physical sample can be enough for an initial review. The factory will identify what CAD work is required.

Why does the factory ask for destination before quoting?

Freight and DDP pricing depend on destination and final packed dimensions.

Should prototype and production pricing be separated?

Yes for new designs. It shows how much capital is at risk before the design is validated.
