Jar candles are a catalog SKU. A sculpted candle lives or dies on whether the RTV block releases the undercut without tearing the wax or the tool. That is a mold problem, not a fragrance problem.

Why silicone for candles

• Flex. Peel off undercuts that lock a rigid cavity.
• Detail. Texture and lettering copy if the master is finished.
• Pour heat. Typical wax temperatures are inside normal platinum RTV use - send your actual pour temp on the RFQ.
• Release. Wax usually comes out without a heavy spray if the cavity is designed for it.

How the molds are made

Most sculpted candle tools here are RTV around a master:

1. Master - sculpted, machined, or 3D printed from your file.
2. Box and pour platinum RTV around it.
3. Cure.
4. Open on the planned seam and pull the master.
5. Trim. Add a rigid support shell when a tall or thin wall will bulge under wax.

No steel tool is required for a first RTV block. Steel shows up later if volume and cavity consistency beat another recast. RTV quotes stay on wydsilicone.com/contact/.

Design decisions to make early

One-piece or two-part

One-piece works when the candle can flex out the open top. Two-part is for full 3D figures and spheres. Expect a seam you will trim.

Wick

Lock wick method before the box is poured: hole in the base, wick pin, or a bar across the pour opening. A pretty cavity with a wandering wick is still a reject candle.

Support shell

Thin walls bulge. A jacket holds the OD while the wax sets. Tall pillars need this more than a squat tart.

Size and fill

Give finished size or target wax weight. Wax shrinks on cool - plan a top-up or a pour cup, do not assume one fill hits the fill line.

Cleaner pours

1. Pour at the wax supplier's temperature band - too hot scars, too cool wrinkles.
2. Tap the mold after fill to move bubbles.
3. Demold only when cool.
4. Wash with warm water and mild soap. No knives in the cavity.
5. Store supported so the block does not take a set.

Do candle molds need food-grade silicone?

Candles are not food. Industrial platinum RTV is chosen for casting, not for an FDA hangtag. If you also want to pour food in the same cavity, say so on day one. We do not call the factory FDA-approved.

1. Send design, photos, or a sample you have rights to reproduce.
2. Lock size, wick, and one-piece vs split in the quote.
3. Approve a prototype.
4. First small batch. Soft MOQ is often 20 per design.
5. Reorder or add shapes after the first cavity proves itself.

Typical shop values: platinum RTV mix is often 1:1 or 10:1 by grade; a support shell is common when wall thickness cannot hold a tall pour. Timing after CAD lock is commonly 3-5 business days for a prototype. Production days after approval depend on size - confirm in the quote.

Can you copy a candle from a photo I like? We can develop from references. Do not send a competitor's protected shape and ask us to clone it.

Same mold for soap or resin? Sometimes. Name every pour material. Exotherm and alkalinity are different jobs.

How many candles per mold? Depends on wax, pour temp, and how you handle the block. We do not print a fake cycle-life number.
